Vid Patel, owner of one of Derbys’ finest restaurants shares his journey and gives us a short insight since arriving in the UK over 40 years ago.

Vid born in Uganda arrived in the UK with his parents on the 15th of July 1974. He wasted no time in furthering his education and enroled at college in September of the same year.

He studied English language to help develop his career, but soon found himself giving up college to find work to support his family.

In 1980, Vid found employment, his first step on the ladder was in Life Insurance Sales where he learnt some vital skills that helped him develop as a dynamic individual with a passion for business.

In fact it wasn’t long before Vid finally realised his passion and opened his first business here in Derby.

Innovation has always been a big part of his character and in 1982 a new business venture was born, Dial – a – Meal, the very first in Derby to run this type of service. Dial a meal was successful for many years where Vid helped his brother Dinesh for a short while.
Vids determination to be successful was always at the forefront of his his mind, but business was not the only ambition he craved, he decided to re visit his days of further education and in 1995 managed to realise one of his dreams and successfully became a Master in Business Administration.
Confidence booming and with business ideas coming thick and fast and along with the success of his first business became a “light bulb moment” as Vid would say , the opportunity for Vid and his brother to venture into the world of Indian fine dining, and in 1996 not long after their first business, they officially opened the doors to “Jee Ja Jees on Heatherton Village.

The brand soon become the No 1 destination for lovers of Indian Fine dining, it became so popular that they expanded throughout the midlands..
With Vids passion for business it wasn’t long before his next venture arrived. Just a few years ago Vid opened “The Kinara Restaurant” in Vids own words “ The number one destination in Derbyshire that offer an exceptional service”
The family restaurant is located on the outskirts of Derby in the small village of Willington, ideally located for those who wish to avoid the hustle of the city centre but still enjoy quality fine dining.

Family is key to the success of any business and has always been a big part of Vids life, which is still run with his brother, along with support from his daughter, his son when he is home from London, and his niece and daughter in law.
It really does seem that Vid doesn’t waste anytime and let the grass grow under his feet, with new ideas and a passion for business Vid has a few more exciting ventures in 2018,

Exciting times ahead! Good Luck Vid in 2018.
