On Thursday 25th September 2014 the Crooks family became the new owners of the Lion Hotel in Belper, adding to The Boars Head and Littleover Lodge, to create what is now known as JC Hotels.
The hotel holds many fond memories for the people of Belper and has been in business since the 18th century.
Over the coming months, our family focused on bringing the Lion Hotel back to its former glory, transforming the much-loved hotel. Through hard work, commitment and a love for the hotel, our dream slowly became a reality. We initially worked through a sympathetic refresh of the hotel and grounds which was then followed by further refurbishments of the main hotel.
Today, the hotel stands proudly in Belper, and is home to one of the areas most popular restaurants and pubs. With a luxurious and quirky interior, The Lion is now the perfect setting for a relaxing weekend, a special occasion or just for a quiet drink with friends. During the transformation, the charm and character of the hotel was retained and the hotel continues to hold fond memories for both the people of Belper and guests.
My son Jonny has 20 years’ experience in the hospitality trade and with his experience of hotels in Derbyshire, the support of the family and a growing team of superb staff, we take great pride in making this wonderful hotel a success, once more.
The Lion Hotel is basically split into a gastro pub & pizzeria with large Sky Sports Tvs, cocktail menus and high-class gastro food. The other half consists of a large function room which caters for Weddings, Occasions and events all year around. We have recently created the ‘secret garden’ which allows guests to dine outside during the summer months.
Our Head Chef, Ian Brennan, runs a team of 6 in order to achieve the type of food and the quality which is needed for us to be a step ahead of our competitors. For JC Hotels, it is important that all meals are freshly prepared and cooked on site, using fresh produce from local outlets. The meats are purchased from Owen Taylor of Leabrooks, the award-winning purveyor of meats, with his award-winning sirloin steaks and sausages.
The Lion Hotel also boasts 22 letting bedrooms which are currently undergoing major refurbishment. Again, it is important the we retain the original charm and character that The Lion Hotel holds but update to the contemporary look to be in keeping with the other hotel and bar areas.
We look forward to welcoming guests who know and love The Lion Hotel from past visits as well as welcoming many new guests.
We look forward to meeting you.
