This month’s Band Feature goes in to the life of a Derby based band known as Maxwell Avenue and talks about their breakthrough and upcoming shows and album.
Maxwell Avenue is a Pop Rock band which formed in Derby in February 2017 when lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Woodward started scouting for musicians online through joinmyband.co.uk.
After finding bassist Jake McCarthy Mansbridge and drummer Sam Warrington online, they formed Maxwell Avenue with the most recent addition of guitarist and vocalist Tom Wilkinson. Ben Woodward and Tom Wilkinson had been friends for many years prior to forming the band, and they were both part of a number of musical projects in Tamworth over the years.
Maxwell Avenue performed live at the O2 Academy in Birmingham on the 24th February 2018 as part of the biggest unsigned artist competition in the UK. The SoundWaves Music Competition is a National Competition which searches for some of the UK’s biggest and brightest unsigned artists. Maxwell Avenue placed as runners-up in the national final, what a way to celebrate their first anniversary.
Heavily influenced by the likes of Green Day and Busted, Maxwell Avenue’s upcoming album ‘Happily Never After’ is currently being mastered and is due to be released in 2019. It promises to pull together the best of punk-pop to pack one hell of a punch.
They are currently touring as a teaser for their upcoming album including a show at The Hairy Dog on 29th October as a Halloween special with their show named “Horror in Derbados” where they are trying to raise money for the teenage cancer trust and need all the help they can possibly get.
Other shows have been announced during November at The Gate Inn situated in Sutton Coldfield as well as headlining a show at the O2 Institute in Birmingham where they previously performed back in August.
