Karl Tyler catering and events began almost 2 years ago, and within that time, has developed a fantastic reputation throughout Nottinghamshire and beyond. Karl describes his food style as “modern British with world influences” and is extremely passionate about not only offering beautifully presented, premium food but also creating a memorable experience for clients.
Karl grew up in Leicestershire, trained at a local college then worked within restaurant & hotel settings, including Michelin Star & Rosette rated establishments; learning and progressing in each role to eventually become head chef in several premium restaurants within the Midlands. He spent 2 years travelling throughout Australia and New Zealand and had the opportunity to further expand his chef career while there; these experiences have also inspired Karl to create dishes influenced by his time travelling.
Upon returning to the UK, Karl continued his chef career within premium restaurants and began offering consultancy services to assist other chefs and managers with menu creation and productivity. After over a decade of working long and unsociable hours, Karl chose to explore a culinary role outside of boundaries of a restaurant setting and became a development chef at a well known national company. Karl says: “I was always intrigued by the idea of developing food products and the creative thinking and research that went into that…I wanted to try something different”.
While in this full-time role, Karl created his catering company as a side project and ran it on a part-time basis “It was exciting to be part of the development and creation of new products, but I really missed the guest interaction that came with cheffing”. The catering company was much busier than expected and he struggled to keep up with the volume of enquiries; Karl then made the decision to leave his development role, and he now runs Chef Karl Tyler Catering and Events on a full-time basis.
Karl’s partner Kat is co-owner of the company and an experienced events manager; she heads up the events organisation, administration, and marketing side of the business, while Karl manages catering and food preparation. He is passionate about utilising local and sustainable products whenever possible and says: “ Its very important to me to support other local businesses, and to support the community…it’s a great thing to be a part of”. As well as being conscious about where ingredients come from, Karl also caters for any dietary requirement or food intolerances, and modifies each and every menu to suit a client’s personal tastes and budget; every dining experience is completely bespoke.
“ I love what I do. I love being able to create a special meal, completely personalised, and be part of that special experience for someone. It is such a great feeling to bring people together “ Karl says.
Karl offers private chef services in the comfort of your home or holiday accommodation, catering for all functions, events and weddings, bespoke and themed menu creation, cookery instruction, chef consultancy, and dinner party services for any size group. Karl and Kat have also recently started hosting themed pop-up supper clubs throughout Nottinghamshire; A vegan event is being held in October, and a Christmas event is taking place in December.
