How it all began

It was at the time when Amanda was working at the University of Derby in Administration, when she first realised a change of career was inevitable.

Although Amanda loved the side of her job dealing with student problems on a day to day basis and gaining many transferable skills, as a working mother she couldn’t help but notice the lack of childcare available to her children after school.

Amanda born and bred in Derby who attended Woodlands Community School, took matters into her own hands and decided to look into childminding, becoming fully aware that if she was having problems many other parents must also be struggling.

Sixteen years ago after a year of planning and gaining necessary qualifications alongside bringing up her three children and two dogs., Amanda set up School’s Out Club to try and help parents with the lack of childcare available.

Giving us an insight, Amanda explained: “School’s Out Club started with a before and after school club for one school, which has grown substantially and is now serving 17 schools and nurseries across Derbyshire with settings in both Allestree and Killburn.

“I also opened a holiday club three months after opening my first before and after school club because I was begged to do so by parents as they were so desperate for childcare.

“Over the years it has gone from strength to strength. We now have five buses which are used daily and for our optional trips during school holidays. We also open for all school teacher training days so we can meet every requirement.

“I have repeatedly said the same thing to parents over and over again which is ‘I can honestly say we only have one problem with our settings and that is the children never want to leave.’ I constantly hear parents say I was right and that I did warn them. It is very heart-warming that we create an environment that children really enjoy so much they don’t want to go home!”

So, what does School’s Out Club Offer?

“At Schools Out Club we have been providing families with flexible, all year wrap around care for children aged 3-14 years. We provide the services of early breakfast clubs, after school clubs, a later collection from clubs in school, holiday club over all school holidays and fun activity days to cover all inset days.

“Our breakfast and after school clubs support all the local schools and nurseries with our 5 blue fun buses. All our staff are DBS checked, qualified first aiders, highly qualified staff in early years, sports coaches or working towards a qualification.

“Our clubs are full of fun play opportunities with our vast range of toys and resources to suit all ages.
